Mt. Rushmore

Man was this a fun trip. They had snow just the day before so all the trails were closed. So we have decided to go back again in May. We stayed at a hotel with a pool and the kids loved that so we will do that again.

This was a rest stop and the kids were so ready to play that we didn't fight it.
Munster and her baby. This baby is going to be frequent traveler.
I saw these and thought it would be fun to get a picture of them sitting on them.
This is the entrance to Mt. Rushmore. If you can't tell it is the kids and I.
Here is Dad and the kids looking down the entrance. There were flags for every state. I thought we would hit the ones we lived in.
Aaahh Mt. Rushmore. It was breath taking.
Gutzon Borglum is the man who was in charge of the sculpting of Mt. Rushmore. He used TNT to do most of the work and he had a big crew to help. There is a video you can watch on this at the lodge.
Here is Munster and baby standing by the statue with Mt. Rushmore in the back ground.
All the workers names
The story of Gutzon Borglum
The grand Terrace. Beyond this is the mountain and just past the wall where the people are standing is the stadium. They have light shows at night on the faces of Mt. Rushmore. We didn't get to see it this time. It was too cold.
New York-11th state. Okay I put this one in for Kris.
Montana-44th state
Florida- 27th state
Hawaii- 50th state
Utah- 45th State
Utah state flag. The behive state- this is for my family
Washington-42nd State this is for my in-laws
Another shot of Mt. Rushmore
The kids and I
The stadium. Notice the flag. It is in celebration of Easter. We thought this was cool sitting on a National monument Something religious.

Wow, that's so neat! So you're on a road trip, alright. It is breathtaking. I love the picture of all the flags lined up and hubby and the kids.

We had so much fun. We can't wait to go back at the end of May. Maybe the trails will be open.

I've never been there....one of these days. I could have told you not to go in April, though as my mother-in-law and friends tried last year and they had a HUGE snowstorm and were stuck for a day or two. Maybe June is a good month to visit.

How exciting. It looks like you guys had a great time. It makes me want to take a trip out there. I'll have to wait until my little bro gets back from his mission in Rapid Cities!
